Chapter 24

Day 138-Morning-Cassandra POV

We wait outside the dungeon, double checking that we are ready. “Do we know anything about this dungeon?” I ask.

When both of my companions shake their heads, I sigh and look at the entrance. “The only thing I heard about this dungeon is that it’s easy and not very big,” I explain. “We’re level eighteen. Let’s see what damage we can do down there.”

Brial cheers before rushing down into the dungeon. Jackson and I exchange a look before following after the halfling. We find her in the safe zone, tapping her foot as she waits for us. “Took you two long enough!”

“Just need the quest,” I say before noticing the blinking notification. Pulling it up, I smile.

Reward: Armor set

“It’s telling us the reward again,” I point out.

Brial nods while dismissing her screen. “Yeah. It’s odd. What do you think it means by that reward?”

“We’ll find out soon enough,” I tell her while looking around the hall we are in. Log walls and a hard-packed dirt floor lead us to a large set of double doors. They look heavy and sturdily made.

I make Jackson lead the way, but he needs my help to push the doors open. As we step through the entrance, we find ourselves in a large pit arena. The walls are high and smooth, and the floor is covered in loose sand. Across the way is an iron gate that leads into a darkened hall. The arena seating has ghost-like apparitions cheering us on as all the seats are filled.

Once we step fully into the arena, the door behind us closes and locks tightly. Brial doesn’t hesitate to summon forth all three spirits. Looking around, we find the announcer, and he waves for the crowd to quiet down.

“On the visitor side, we have an adventurer party! Lead by one Cassandra Wevile!” he yells out. “For their first opponent, from deep in the sandy depths of the Verassis desert, sand worms!”

The gate on the far side opens up and three creatures start shifting the sand as they burrow towards us. The earth spirit steps forward and prepares to intercept them with the help of Jackson.

The spirit takes two of the worms as they burst from the sand, latching onto the shields. It turns them towards us as Brial and I rush forward. She leaves her other two spirits to fight the one that leaps and attaches to Jackson.

With a solid punch, I knock the sandworm off the spirit before kicking its side. With each hit, blue spirit bursts free and its life force dims. It only takes me two more kicks to extinguish the flame in its heart.

Turning to Brial, I find that she doesn’t need help as she beats the worm with her mace. Each hit stuns and burns the worm as the spikes take chunks of flesh out of the monster. I turn to find that the third worm is already dead as its skin is blackened from the severe burns it suffered.
